Congratulations!! to all POY Award Recipients at the SPMI’s 5th Project of the Year 2018-19 Awards
SPMI - The Project Management Institute Singapore Chapter which is the Country Chapter of Project Management Institute (PMI), established in the year 1999. SPMI currently has over 2000+ active members and is so glad to inform the results for the prestigious 5th Project of the Year (POY) award, which attracted various nominations from corporate and government agencies. This year there were 30% more nomination entries as compared to the previous years, which shows the growing appetite & keenness for companies to take part. The POY 2018-19 Awards gala dinner was clubbed with SPMI Member’s Nite was conducted at Shangri-La Hotel Singapore on 12th Apr 2019. Nearly 300 project professionals participated this event from 200+ companies across various industries.
With overwhelming support from Singapore Economic Development Board (EDB), National Trade Union Corporation (NTUC), and other market leaders, corporates, project management professionals, this program was launched in 2014, inviting all government agencies as well as corporates to showcase their outstanding projects for these awards.
SPMI have started this program with the sole purpose and objective to create a merit-based platform to recognize projects from Singapore, under two broad categories, those distinguished through project management practices, innovation, value creation, complexity and impact.
The 5rd SPMI Project of the Year (POY 2018-19) Awards honored outstanding completed Singapore based projects under the below categories
SPMI was honored to have Professor Cheong Hee Kiat, President Singapore University of Social Sciences (SUSS) as our distinguished Guest of Honour (GOH) to the award event. In his key note speech, he said, “with the increasing size and complexity of projects, risks and uncertainties, regulations and user demand, good project management takes on even greater importance. And, thked the members of the Project Management Institute who volunteered to compile the best practices of project management into a document known as the Project Management Body of Knowledge Guide or PMBOK Guide in short, the science and art of project is better understood and better applied. The GOH pointed that the need for good project managers is of paramount importance – people who can deal with multi-dimensional, multi-disciplinary aspects, a good juggler, good manager of people, always learning including from mistakes. We need to educate project managers for the future. It is important also that we continue to promote good practices of project management by recognizing good projects and good project managers and raise them up as role models for the community. PMI Singapore Chapter should be commended for the Project of the Year (POY) Award it launched in 2014”.

SPMI president Mr. Umesh Ursekar shared the opening note for this award ceremony, shared about PMI Singapore chapter’s various programs and contribution to the Project management community in Singapore and, shared the importance of Project of the Year award.
The SPMI POY 2016-19 Awards Chairman Mr. Hari Hara, in his speech mentioned that Singapore has a very vibrant project management community and to tap this vibrancy, recognition of outstanding projects and the hard-work by the teams are important. Encouraged more companies to participate in the SPMI POY awards platform each year. These awards will motivate the vibrant project management community in Singapore & be an example to other regions as well. Mr. Hari Hara presented the overview of the POY 2018-19 awards, highlighted the insights of the award categories, and the shortlisted finalists from various industries. This year, POY awards attracted nominations from many industrial segments Viz., Information Technology & Business solutions, Pharmaceutical, & Healthcare, Semiconductor, Telecommunications, large EPC companies, Singapore government agencies LTA (Land Transport Authority), JTC Corporation, Ministry of Trade & Industry (MTI) International consultancies, Marine and offshore, Energy & Chemicals, Rail Transportation infrastructure, and land reclamation projects. SPMI POY chairman Mr. Hari Hara and co-chair Ms. Annie Chong presented the nomination companies to Exyte, PM Group, Tata Communications as well as Ministry of Trade & Industry (MTI) with appreciation awards for their participation & best efforts in preparation for their POY awards nomination(s).
The SPMI-POY committee includes SPMI President Mr. Umesh Ursekar, SPMI Board member & POY Chairman Mr. Hari Hara, as well as POY Co-Chair Ms. Annie, SPMI Board members, as well as mentors Mr. Rashid Mohiuddin & Mr. Rama Prasad Mamidi. SPMI-POY-2017-18 award program was backed-up with a strong line-up of 17 Judges and Evaluation Panel members which includes CTO, COO, Professors, Managing Directors, Senior Vice Presidents, Corporate Directors, EDB director, and many other senior executives from the corporate world and reputed institutions (NTU & NUS). SPMI thanked all Panel members with an appreciation plaque.
