Objectives:
- The push towards digitalisation has been rapidly accelerated by the COVID-19 pandemic. The future of infrastructure projects requires both an understanding of how digital transformation can be implemented and how to embrace digitalisation to stay competitive by bringing change to the future of the infrastructure industry.
- Projects are getting more and more complex involving increased stakeholder coordination. The use of digital and the need to have a digital strategy in place is critical to ensure success.
- Identifying the appropriate competencies involves combining the right level of social interaction with the right depth of knowledge of the design process and the use of BIM tools.
- Major projects are of a long duration and need to be agile enough to accommodate innovation and advances in technology to ensure requirement changes and expectations are met.
Case Study: Crossrail – The Creation of a Digital Railway
This session will illustrate how Crossrail created its digital and data environment with practical examples and lessons learned in smart information management and creating a digital BIM environment, including:
- Digital basics: what is really needed to drive better outcomes;
- Creating a true collaborative data environment;
- How to encourage innovation.
Lessons learned and problem areas are highlighted, but the evidence of benefits in going digital – by focusing on the endgame and reshaping work practices into workflows with digital tools - is made clear to those who want to improve both their project and infrastructure performance.

- Gain an understanding of the setup and challenges of operating a DMO;

Mr. Eugene Seah spearheads and oversees the Surbana Jurong Group’s special projects and strategic initiatives, in particular, the Group’s Key Account Management Office, Digital Management Office, and Sustainability and Resiliency Office. He is also a Director on the Boards of Threesixty Cost Management and Threesixty Contract Advisory, for which his knowledge and expertise help to fortify the business thrust of the Group. Apart from his extensive experience in Quantity Surveying, Eugene injects sustainability value management and green approaches into his work to achieve project efficiency. He is a Green Mark professional and is knowledgeable in the field of sustainable buildings. He is also an Accredited Adjudicator under the Singapore Mediation Centre and a registered Mediator in the Singapore Institute of Surveyors and Valuers. Eugene works on enhancing productivity in Design and Construction and research on Computational BIM, xR and other productivity enhancement topics for the Surbana Jurong Group. His effort has won him several awards for SJ, including RICS Construction Professional of the Year (2019). |

Mr. Malcolm Taylor is a specialist in digitalisation and the creation, implementation and application of Project Information Management (PIM) on major projects. He is a Chartered Engineer and has over 40 years of international experience in program and project management, design and construction of major transport infrastructure schemes, Caribbean, UK, Europe, Africa, Middle East, and Asia. Malcolm is a leading exponent of the UK’s drive for PIM and Building Information Management (BIM) maturity in client organisations, using digital technologies. He was a contributor to the UK BIM Task Group, is part of the current UK BIM Alliance initiative. More recently, Malcolm was responsible for the development of digital and technical information strategies as well as BIM, computer-aided design, document management, Crossrail’s geographic information system (GIS), cybersecurity, and asset information management. |

Mr. Prakash is a Registered Professional Engineer with the Professional Engineer’s Board Singapore and has more than 25 years of experience in all aspects of project development from conceptualisation and planning, design, contract administration, construction and project management for several building and infrastructure projects both in Singapore and Asia. His particular specialisation is in prefabrication technology. His career has spanned both the public and private sectors where he has been involved in multiple roles including the review of public sector infrastructure projects, consultancy and the execution of major infrastructure projects. More recently he has been involved in the setup and operation of the Project Management and Governance office for the KL-Singapore High Speed Rail project. |

Mr Steve Griffin is responsible for commercial and procurement at Gammon who are committed to further their business by way of innovation and technological applications to reach their goal of integrated digital project delivery. Prior to Gammon, Steve served as a Deputy Director (Contracts & Procurement) at LTA Singapore. He previously served as General Manager, Procurement and contracts in MTR Corporation Ltd responsible for all MTR’s business activities in Hong Kong and departmentally providing commercial advice to the company’s overseas wholly owned entities. Prior to MTR, he worked for contractors both in HK and UK latterly as GM of Amec Construction in HK. Steve is a fellow of CIOB (The Chartered Institute of Building) United Kingdom. |

Mr. Harihara is a PMI-certified Project Management Professional (PMP) has more than 20 years’ experience in delivering various large EPC industrial projects & programs in Singapore, India and France. He has hands-on experience in cross-functional team leadership, with multi-disciplinary project design engineering, project management, and business development, across various industrial sectors such as hi-tech Infrastructure, Semicon, photovoltaic industries, petrochemical, chemical, refinery, pharmaceuticals, environmental projects. He is currently working for an engineering firm Worley. Harihara is the president of the PMI Singapore Chapter, has volunteered on various roles for many years for the development of vibrant PM community in Singapore. In addition, Harihara delivered speeches at international conferences in the context of Project Management excellence. |
