- The future of delivering large complex infrastructure & industrial projects are fundamentally dependent on data and efficient & effective movement of data between disparate systems and applications.
- Sydney Water Southern Region project is an example of the successful integration of disciplines of Software Engineering, Project Management, and Design Engineering for data-driven project delivery.
- The Digital Transformation path will define “the project of the future” with special attention to Design philosophy and technology selection, Data-centric execution, and smooth transition into Operations, maintenance, and reliably.
- Digitalisation is also key to reducing Operational Cost by prolonging asset life and reliability, increasing the effectiveness of project management and de-risking project lifecycle. The use of Digital Twins to model complex asset information and transform the typical engineering, operation, maintenance, and interaction with the asset.
- Real-time practices and digital tools including the Internet of Things (IoT) and Artificial Intelligence (AI) / Machine Language (ML) further enhance asset reliability information, getting a better handle of known asset and equipment lifespan that enable effective preventive maintenance and optimize shutdown planning.
Case Study: Sydney Water Southern Region Project: Data-driven integrated approach to project delivery
This presentation will illustrate how Sydney Water accelerated its journey to a more data-driven integrated approach to project delivery by outsourcing the construction and maintenance of Sydney’s Southern Region to a Joint Venture.
This approach provided an opportunity to re-imagine and re-design the entire approach for data management, systems integration, project controls, and project management. From the outset, this ongoing project is designed to be scalable, portable, and transferable - branded as ‘Project-in-a-Box’.

Michael has worked for WSP Digital for 4 years and in that time has led a number of large, complex system implementations and projects using both agile software development methodologies as well as more traditional project methodologies such as PMP. Michael has worked managing system implementations across a number of industries in both India and Australia. Michael is a Certified Agile Project Manager and holds a Diploma of Project Management from the Australian Institute of Management. |

Ms. Sybil Tan is a director in the Major Projects/ Asset Management(AM) Advisory Team in KPMG Singapore. She leads the team in delivering Construction as well as AM based projects in the region. She is a Chartered Civil Engineer (ICE) and Certified Project Manager with over 20 years of technical and industry experience in civil and structural projects, including rail, utilities, and built environment. She is also working with various infrastructure clients on digital strategies as well as implementation planning e.g. Data & Analytics in Infrastructure, BIM strategies, Digital Twin strategies, AI for maintenance optimisation etc. |

Ms. Irene Wilson has over 20 years' experience leading multi-billion dollar, cross-border, infrastructure, and energy projects with high technology solutions. She has on-ground expertise in construction execution of EPC projects in South East Asia, China, Europe, and West Africa with major International Oil Companies like Total, Equinor (Statoil), BP, Chevron, Shell, and ExxonMobil. Irene has been based in Singapore for almost 7 years. Irene has been leading the global efforts with the Data Science Worley team on Predictive Analytics applied to project controls data for Major Projects in Worley. |

Mr. Peter Scaife is currently Vice President - Worley Digital Business Development for the Middle East and Africa Region. Throughout his tenure, Peter has been responsible for innovation, automation, and digitalisation as well as managing teams of systems experts. He’s been an integral contributor to projects of national importance and mega projects in various sectors including up/mid/downstream energy, mining and minerals, and petrochemical space. A few highlight-reel projects include Dow Polyethylene Train 3 and Suncor Fort Hills in Canada, PDO Rabab Harweel Integrated Project in Oman, and Exxon Tapis in Kuala Lumpur. Key focus areas for digitalisation and automation include TIC reductions, faster start-up and accelerated schedule and quality improvements. |

For the past 20 years, he has successfully delivered various EPC industrial projects/programs. He has worked in Singapore, France, India regions. Hands-on experience in leading the project delivery with a cross-functional global team, with multi-disciplinary project design engineering, project management, business development across various industrial sectors, such as hi-tech infrastructure, Semicon, photovoltaic industries, petrochemical, chemical, refinery, pharmaceuticals, environmental pollution abatement projects. He has worked with leading multinational engineering firms. Harihara is a chemical engineer, has an EMBA degree, from Rutgers Business School, USA, and a Master of Science (CIM) from NTU Singapore.
